Each year the City of LA Dept. of Cultural Affairs presents awards to a select group of artists as part of the Independent Master Artist Project (COLA IMAP) and exhibit their work at the LA Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Art Park in Los Feliz in LA. Among the awardees this year is Taiwanese American visual artist, Flora Kao, who is widely known for her striking work creating canvas "paintings" of meaningful locations from her personal journeys as well as vibrant installations. Flora's 2025 COLA exhibition focuses on a journey of self-reflection of her Taiwanese heritage.
On Saturday, August 23 at 2 pm, TAP-LA members and friends will meet for a tour of the entire 2025 COLA exhibition which features the work of 5 artists, including Flora Kao. At 3:15 pm, we will meet Flora in-person, who will talk to the group about her art. Flora will also be offering a origami teaching session for those who are interested.
We will meet at the front entrance to the gallery, which is located at the hill top of the Barnsdall Art Park, promptly at 2 pm. Leave ample time for parking.
